Jeannine G. Hinkley
Roxbury- Jeannine G. Hinkley, 86, of Roxbury, died October 22, 2022 unexpectedly at Albany Medical Center. She was born in Stamford, N.Y on January 1, 1936 to Catherine Moore Decker and Robert Decker. Jeannine grew up in Grand Gorge on Route 23 on a farm in the village. She graduated in 1953 from Grand Gorge Central School.
She married the love of her life, Thomas Edward Hinkley, in 1953. They moved to the Hinkley Family Farm in Meeker Hollow, Roxbury, N.Y., where they raised four children: Tonya (Jerome) Liberatore, Tom Hinkley, Toni (Gary) Smith and Tyrone (Susan) Hinkley. Jeannine loved Meeker Hollow and was known as the Mayor of Meeker Hollow. She lived there just shy of 70 years.
Jeannine very much enjoyed her grandchildren, Jerome (Janine) Liberatore, Alanna (Aaron) Hicks, Lindsey (Maxwell) Mead, Brent Smith, Jason (Kristen) Hinkley and Alison Hinkley. She was very proud of her five great grandchildren, Benjamin Liberatore, Ronan and Fiona Hicks and Remy and Rex Mead.
Jeannine was a beautiful, vibrant, person who always remained positive and optimistic. She was an amazing woman who was very strong and adventurous. She was daring, compassionate, caring, and kind. She also had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to laugh and reminisce around her table with friends and family. Jeannine had a wonderful memory and ability to remember dates and was able to share them.
She hosted Sunday night dinners every week at her house for over 50 years. Everyone gathered, brought a dish, and enjoyed good company, conversation, and a cocktail or two. Besides being a wonderful and fun-loving mother and grandmother, she was an excellent cook. She prepared lunch for all the hired hands and hay help on the farm. These men still rave about the spread of lunch she would serve to everyone.
Jeannine loved sports and was a sports advocate for both Roxbury and Margaretville sports teams. She was an enthusiastic spectator for all of her grandkids games.
Jeanine was predeceased by her husband of 44 years, Thomas, and her daughter in law Susan. She is survived by her four children, six grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Deborah Cammer and several nieces and nephews.
