Ethel Bye Reynolds
Ethel Bye Reynolds, 97, passed away peacefully in her home on Monday, Oct. 17, 2022, surrounded by her loved ones.
She was born on Feb. 23, 1925, the daughter of Albert George Bye and Mary Mason Bye, of Andes. The family lived and worked at the Gerry Estate for 11 years before moving to the Village of Andes.
After graduating from Andes Central School early at the age of 16, Ethel attended Albany Business College. She returned to the Andes area and held several jobs in local establishments before marrying her high school sweetheart, Robert Reynolds, on Aug. 4, 1945.
Ethel and Bob proudly ran the family dairy farm for more than 32 years and raised four children there together. They took great pride in tending to a beautiful, bountiful garden, making applesauce and maple syrup, canning pickles and more for their family. They enjoyed traveling together and had several memorable trips to Alaska, England and throughout the U.S. and Canada. In their retirement, they spent the winter months in Ruskin, Florida, where they made many beloved friends. They enjoyed 69 years of marriage.
Ethel was a talented baker, cook and craftswoman, and she loved to sew, knit, crochet and put together jigsaw puzzles. She was a member of the Andes Presbyterian Church and loved her church family.
Her family will miss her smile and laugh, her chocolate chip cookies and warm Saturday rolls, and the way she took such good care of everyone she loved.
Ethel was predeceased by her husband, Bob, and her older sisters, Beatrice and Eleanor. She is survived by her four children, Linda (Doug) Brown of Walton, John (Teresa) Reynolds of Andes, Wayne (Alma) Reynolds of Andes, and Sheila (Lee) Huey, of Watkins Glen; four grandchildren, Jenny Lane (Eric), Jessy Reynolds, Ben Huey (Amanda) and Sarah Collins (John); and three great-granddaughters, Penny, Megan and Carlee.
Calling hours will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2022, followed by the funeral at the Andes Presbyterian Church and burial at the Andes Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Presbyterian Church of Andes.
Arrangements entrusted to Hynes Funeral Home in Margaretville.
