C. John Schoonmaker

C. John Schoonmaker, 82 1/2 years, passed away at his home on Tuesday August 3, 2021, the son of Jennie and Chauncey Schoonmaker. His childhood was spent in Phoenicia, NY. After graduating from Onteora CS in 1956, John enlisted in the U.S. Navy. His naval career spanned for 26 years during which time he traveled the world. John retired in 1981 as Chief Warrant Officer 2. He then worked for the Burke Rehabilitation Center in White Plains where he served as director of safety and security until 1991. Upon his retirement from Burke, John worked at the Phoenicia Antique Center where he bought and sold antiques and conducted on-site auctions. In 1991, John met the love of his life, Marie Palko. They married in 1997 and resided in Roxbury. Surviving John are his wife Marie, and his fur babies, Emma his dog and Olivia his cat.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday August 11, 2021 from 12pm-2pm at Miller Funeral Home in Roxbury, NY. Graveside committal prayers at the Margaretville Annex Cemetery will follow the funeral service at 2pm.
