Agnes H. Van Steenburg

Agnes H. Van Steenburg, 87, of Arkville, died suddenly at her residence on Tuesday, May 16, 2023.

She was born in Lew Beach on November 7, 1935, daughter of Royce and Carrie Simmons Backman.

She married Douglas G. Van Steenburg on May 28, 1955 in Livingston Manor.  They moved to the Margaretville area in 1965.  Her husband of 50 years passed in 2006.

Agnes was a longtime employee of the Margaretville Memorial Hospital where she worked for over 40 years in the housekeeping department.

She is survived by her seven children, four daughters, Karen and son-in-law Terry Dean of Greenville, SC, Lynn and son-in-law Don Sanford of Margaretville, Cheryl and son-in-law Bob Nealon of Arkville, Carrie Beth and son-in-law Jason Key of Lasdon, SC, three sons, Douglas R. and daughter-in-law Lisa Van Steenburg of Margaretville, Tom Van Steenburg of Delhi and Daniel Van Steenburg of Arkville.  Siblings surviving Agnes are two brothers, Bill and sister-in-law Carol Backman of Lew Beach,  Allen and sister-in-law Ruth Backman of Rock Hill, SC and one sister, Kathy and brother-in-law Frank(predeceased) DenHollander of Summerfield, FL.  Also surviving are 12 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Friends and family may call from 5 to 8pm Tuesday, May 23rd at the Hynes Funeral Home in Margaretville.

Funeral services will be held at 11am Wednesday, May 24th at the Hynes Funeral Home in Margaretville with Shirley Davis, L.P. officiating.  Burial will be in Lew Beach Cemetery, Lew Beach immediately following the service.
