Edward H. “Ned” Dickson Jr., 68, passed away peacefully at his home on Close Hollow in the Town of Andes on May 3, 2023.
Ned was born on February 6, 1955 in Manchester, CT to Arena native Edward H. Dickson and his wife, Elizabeth Clark Dickson, of Philadelphia, PA. They later moved to North Palm Beach, FL, where Ned attended the Palm Beach Day School in Florida and then the Blue Ridge School and Christ Church School in Virginia. Ned went on to study art at Elmira College in Elmira, NY, where he would develop lifelong friendships and a deep love of art. He graduated in 1978.
Ned married Anne Doherty in 1982. They moved to Margaretville where their two sons, Alexander Doherty Dickson and Clark Shepard Dickson were born.
Ned was an artist at heart. He was an avid photographer, sculptor, and painter, producing many pieces of artwork, some of which have been featured in galleries around the area. Ned deeply enjoyed spending time with friends and family. He was a frequent sight at class reunions, local restaurants, and back decks everywhere. He enjoyed hunting, skiing, offroading and boating. His warmth and kindness radiated to all who knew him. He was quick with a joke and an easy laugh or to lend an ear.
He is survived by his two sons, Alex of Prattsville, NY and Clark of Boston, MA and their mother Anne Doherty Dickson. He is also survived by a sister, Barbara and her husband, Mace McCain of Fredericksburg, TX; a brother, Steven Dickson of Hobe Sound, FL a niece, Susan Dickson of Dallas, TX and a nephew, Steven Dickson Jr of Hobe Sound, FL.
Visitation for family and friends will be held at St. James, Lake Delaware Church on Friday June 2nd from 10-11am. A funeral service will immediately follow. Following the service Ned’s cremains will be interred in the Margaretville Cemetery Annex. Arrangements are by the Hynes Funeral Home in Margaretville.
