William W. Schluter
William W Schluter (Bill) was born on April 24, 1952 to Edward R Schluter Jr. and Matilda Schluter in Hicksville, Long Island. After graduating high school, Bill spent two years in the army and upon his return home to Hicksville, went to work with his brother, Ed, at Defoe Corporation eventually taking a managerial position at UPS. Deciding he needed a change of scenery, he moved to Halcottsville, New York where his parents lived and he met his future wife Joy. They started their life together and built a home on the top of Millbrook by Balsam Mountain.
Bill was busy plowing, mowing, and maintaining properties in and around Halcottsville and Margaretville for many years. He was also an elected Councilman for the Town of Hardenburg. For over a decade Bill battled COPD and Parkinson’s Disease attending group sessions at Catskill Mountain Recreation Center in Arkville, NY. Bill eventually and peacefully succumbed to his illnesses on February 13, 2025 with his wife at his bedside.
He leaves behind his loving sister, Christine Maloney, brother Edward R Schluter III, sister-in-law Linda Schluter, nephews Tod, Christopher, Edward IV and Tim along with his great nephews and nieces. He also leaves behind his loving step children Julie, Miles and Joe along with their children and his grandchildren who he adored and always looked forward to the time he spent with them.
Bill will be missed by family and friends and has requested no services. At the request of his family, any donations may be made to the Michael J Fox Foundation or the Rock Steady Boxing at the Catskill Mountain Recreation Center, Arkville, NY.
