William “Bill” Blish
William "Bill" Blish passed away peacefully at his home on March 28th, 2023, surrounded by his wife Anna and stepdaughter Amber. Bill was born on October 17th, 1949 to Martha and Paul Blish. A lifelong Margaretville resident, Bill joined the United State Air Force out of high school and was stationed in Delaware and Korea during the Korean War. Upon completion of his military service, Bill was employed by the Margaretville Telephone Company for 46 years and played a vital role in keeping the local telephone system operating on a day to day basis. As a 50 year member of the Margaretville Volunteer Fire Department, Bill enjoyed serving the community which he was born and raised in. Chances are, you have enjoyed Bill's BBQ chicken sauce recipe each summer during the 4th of July celebration in town. Bill was one of the warmest, selfless and genuine individuals you could ever meet. Without a doubt, if you knew Bill, he made a lasting impression on you.
Bill was an avid golfer, taking golf trips each year and an overall sports fanatic. His favorite team was the NY Yankees, and whatever team his stepson, Clinton was currently working for. As a competitive bowler, Bill competed in state tournaments for years with his bowling buddies. Bowling happened to be where Bill met his forever partner, Anna and they shared a love like no other. You often would find Bill and Anna on the golf course, at the bowling alley or traveling, looking for sunshine or a beach to relax and read a book.
Bill's family was of utmost importance to him. His wife Anna, Daughter Kari, Stepdaughter Amber and Stepson Clinton (Michelle) from Florida were integral parts of Bill's life. He also enjoyed spending time with his three grandchildren, Keegan, Caedan and Kiley. Bill's face would glow each time his grandchildren would yell "Poppa Bill" and you could see in his smile that it made his day.
Bill was survived by his mother Martha, sisters, Barb (Rick) and Diane (Ralph) Ackerly, along with several nieces and nephews and their families. Bill was predeceased by his father, Paul.
A memorial service was held April 4th at 3pm at Hynes Funeral Home and a private committal will be held for close friends and family at a later time.
