Sylvia Blakeslee
Sylvia Blakeslee, 84, died Sunday October 8, 2023 at The Delhi Rehabilitation Center following a stroke. She was born December 6, 1938 in Roxbury. She
was the daughter of Irvin and Dorothy Mead. As a young woman she attended and graduated from Roxbury Central School. Shortly thereafter she married
her high school sweetheart, Larry Blakeslee. She and Larry raised 3 children, Dawn (Shultis), Todd and Darren.
The couple sought to better themselves by having Sylvia attend Nursing School in Ulster County, then moving the family to Venice, Florida where Larry and Sylvia lived, loved and prospered for the next 44 years. In their waning years, they moved in with Dawn and her husband Greg which took them to Salt Lake City, Utah for several years and then back to Roxbury for the remainder of their lives. Sylvia will be sorely missed. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law Dawn and Greg Shultis, son Todd and life partner Eddie and son and daughter in law Darren and Karen Blakeslee, as well as 6 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Calling hours will be November 10 from 1-3p with a memorial service to follow at Miller Funeral Home in Roxbury officiated by Rev. Richard Dykstra. A life celebration for Sylvia will be held at the Carriage House behind the Jay Gould Memorial Church following the service.
