Rita Jane George

Rita Jane (Atkin) George died at Margaretville Hospital on the 20th of March 2021 following a sudden severe illness.  She was born in Delhi, NY on April 21, 1944 the youngest of three daughters of Cornelia "Connie" Mostert and Ordway "Oby" Atkin.  She had lived in Margaretville most of her life and was familiar to so many residents from her decades of work as a cashier in several of the area’s retail stores.  She is survived by her daughters Lisa Gardner and husband William and Jodi Carson and husband Stephen, her sisters Betty Temming and husband Freddy and LouAnn Jocelyn, her grandchildren Joshua Smith, Emily Carson, Brooke Gardner and Tucker Hohn, as well as three great granddaughters Shaelynn Arguez, Emmalynn Smith, and Avery Smith and her many nieces and nephews.  She will be greatly missed by all and especially by her constant and faithful little companion Max the Maltese. She was predeceased by her parents and her grandson Tyler James Smith. A service in her memory will be held at Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville, N.Y., On Friday April 2, 2021 at 11 am. A luncheon immediately following will be at the Arkville Fire Hall.
