Edna (Rosa) Conine

Edna Rosa Conine, 97, passed away at Mountainside Residential Care Center in Margaretville NY. She was the daughter of the late Albert Rosa and Della (Vermilyea) Rosa and grew up in the Dry Brook area of Arkville, later attending Margaretville Central School. Edna was happily married to Kenneth R. Conine since July 1946. They spent their life together in the bungalow originally built by Jay Conine but was later renovated by Ken and Edna to better accommodate their growing family. Kenneth passed away May 21, 2016.

Edna was known for her beautiful handmade quilts. She often donated her quilts to help raise money for Margaretville Hospital and Andes Presbyterian Church and other local organizations. She also made sure that her grandchildren all had a quilt. Edna was active in the Andes Presbyterian Church. In earlier years, she and Ken were avid bowlers and were members of the Andes Ski Club. Edna left a legacy of love of family and community. She knew the importance of keeping her children close and teaching them the traditional values that come with life in the small rural town of Andes. Those values continue to be passed down to future generations.

Besides her parents and husband, Edna is predeceased by her siblings Thelma Fairbairn, Marguerite Fairbairn, Orville Rosa, Lester Rosa, Gordon Rosa, Robert Rosa, and Ivan Rosa. All were life-long residents of the Margaretville area.

Edna is survived by her 4 children, Richard Conine (Terri) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Michael Conine of Peru, NY, Suzanne Puffer (Terry) of Delhi NY, MaryAnne Smutzer (Michael) of Davenport, Iowa. She is also survived by her grandchildren Amity Herrera, Myra Tyndall, Michael Conine Jr., Tera Impens, Megan Smutzer, Jennifer Ball, Amber Rosendo. She is also survived by 8 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday October 10, 2024 at 2:30pm with Pastor Karen Ogborn officiating at the Andes Cemetery, Andes, NY.

 After the service friends and family are invited to gather for an afternoon beverage and conversation at the Andes Hotel.

The family wishes to acknowledge the kindness of the staff from Helios Care and the staff of Mountainside Residential Care Center. Your kind compassion and consistent caring and loving manner toward Edna and all residents did not go unnoticed by our family.

 Any contributions in Edna’s memory may be given to the Andes Presbyterian Church or any local charity of one’s choice
