Dr. James Robert Gohlke

Dr. James Robert Gohlke, 75, of Margaretville and Kingston passed away on September 14, 2020 at Northern Duchess Hospital in Rhinebeck, NY.  Jim was born on April 8, 1945 in Warsaw, NY to Frederick Lewis Gohlke and Mable May (Reid) Gohlke.  He is survived by his children, Kenneth R. Gohlke of Yorktown Heights, NY, Jennifer Holly Gohlke Khan of Charlottesville, VA, and Paul Reid Gohlke of Blacksburg, VA, his three grandsons, his brother Fredrick L. Gohlke of Carteret, NY and his nieces and nephews.  Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Lisa Ann Hofmann, his parents, his brother, William O. Gohlke, and his sister, Ruth J. (Gohlke) Pinto.

Jim was an accomplished scientist who received B.S. and Ph.D. degrees from Johns Hopkins University.  He spent his career at Union Carbide and Kraft General Foods, and also served as an adjunct professor at New York Medical College and Pennsylvania State University.  Jim very much loved life in the Catskills and served on the board of the Fairview Public Library and as a volunteer with Delaware County Emergency Services.  He was an avid camper, hiker, golfer, bowler and animal lover.

Unfortunately, due to COVID restrictions, there will be no viewing, formal service or reception.  Internment of Jim’s ashes will be held on Saturday, October 10th at 2pm at Woods/Gavette Cemetery in Margaretville, NY with required face coverings and social distancing.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Hynes Funeral Home in Margaretville.
