Darrell Slater
Darrell G. Slater, age 73, of Roxbury, NY passed away from an unexpected illness on November 11, 2023. Darrell is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Slater and three grandchildren, Trevor, Derek and Jordan of Oneonta, NY, his twin brother Dennis (Jackie) Slater of Roxbury, and his former spouse, Jeannette Thompson of Roxbury, NY. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and great nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father Seaford Slater, his mother Mona VanWie Graham, his older brother Seaford (Bubby) Slater, Jr., and his two older sisters, Linda Slater Graham and FloJean Slater Vincent.
Darrell was a lifelong resident of Roxbury, NY.. He graduated from Roxbury Central School in 1969. He went to vocational school for auto mechanics and operated Darrell's Service Station in Roxbury for many years.
Darrell provided many years of service during that time including snow plowing and towing service. Those who knew him then will always remember his "Orange Blossom" .
He was a loving father, grandfather and family man who enjoyed spending time with them. The memories and the strong role model he was for his grandsons, will always be treasured.
Darrell had many close friends through the years, who enjoyed his love for boating, fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, and in earlier years skiing. He enjoyed his antique cars and was a great collector of many things. He loved the serenity and peacefulness with his friends and family at his cabin in Beaver River. He also enjoyed time hunting at his hunting camp in Roxbury. In recent years, he enjoyed spending time at his home in Florida fishing and boating with friends. Through the years, Darrell offered his home, help, and support to anybody who needed it. He never looked for anything in return and was a generous man.
Calling hours will be held from 10 am to 12 pm on Monday, November 20, 2023 at the Jay Gould Memorial Reformed Church in Roxbury, NY.
Darrell’s funeral service will be at noon with Rev. Dykstra officiating. Burial will follow at the Roxbury Cemetery, 54114 NY 30, Roxbury, NY. A celebration of life will immediately follow at the Carriage House behind the Jay Gould Memorial Reformed Church. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Darrell's life.
