Daniel Francis O’Neil Sr.
It is with great sadness that the family of Daniel Francis O’Neil Sr. announce his
passing on June 25, 2023. Daniel was born in Syracuse, New York on May 11, 1944.
He was the son of Charles and Florence Wurtenberger O’Neil and grew up in
Astoria, New York. He graduated from Bryant High School in 1962. He was married
to Susan Riscen O’Neil on July 24, 1964. They had two sons, Daniel and David, and
were married for several years before they decided to part ways. He was then
married to Joyce Davis Reed on March 12, 1983 and they enjoyed 38 loving years
together before her passing on October 30, 2020. He reconnected with his first
love, Susan and they spent his last few years happily together. Daniel worked as a
mechanic in Astoria before taking a position with Thomas’s English Muffins as a
delivery man. This job led him to Roxbury, New York where he lived the majority of
his life. He then worked for the area lumber company as a truck driver, yardman,
salesman, and finally the store manager until his retirement in 2006. Daniel was an
avid golfer and spent many days golfing with his friends and family members. He
loved to travel, especially to Florida and would retire there for several weeks each
year. Dan loved NASCAR, Columbo, old western movies, especially those with his
favorite actor, John Wayne, beating everyone at poker, and visiting the casinos. He
was the proud grandfather of Dane, Ian, Dylan, Aidan, Emily, and Jaxon as well as
Matthew and Patrick. He would never miss an opportunity to boast about his
grandchildren. Daniel was a great father, husband, friend, and worker and will be
missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his sons, Daniel (and Kelly) O’Neil and
David (and Caroline) O’Neil along with stepson, Jeffrey Reed, and his
grandchildren. He leaves behind his partner, Susan O’Neil along with several nieces
and nephews. He was predeceased by his step-children, Karna and Billy as well as
his brother, Charlie O’Neil and his parents.
