Barbara “Barb” Condon

Barbara Mary Matthews Condon, 96, of New Kingston, NY, was called to her heavenly home on July 19, 2022. Born to Cora and Donald Matthews on July 19, 1926, she grew up in Shavertown, NY and later in Andes, NY, where she met the love of her life, Douglas and married on June 25, 1946. During their 69 years together they worked side by side on their dairy farm while raising their children.

She spent her life in the New Kingston valley and was always active in her community. She owned and operated The Country Store in New Kingston village for several years, worked for the New Kingston Post Office until she retired in 2006 and was a member of the New Kingston Valley Grange. Her passion was her church, Margaretville/New Kingston Presbyterian, where she served the Lord in many loving ways including working on church fundraiser dinners, teaching Sunday School, serving as an Elder, and as church pianist and choral leader for over 60 years. Every Sunday she put her heart and soul into her church music.

Barb touched many lives with her compassion, love and kindness always caring for others. Many friends and family have referred to her as their “second Mom” or “Mom”. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, sister, grandmother and aunt, a reliable and caring friend and a servant of her church and God.

She is survived by her daughters Norma King (Jim) and Susan Moody (Bill), Daniel Condon (Melinda), her sister LoDema McAdams, brothers Bob Matthews (Sue) and Gary Matthews, 7 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her parents Cora and Don Matthews, her husband Douglas, her daughter Karen Roosa, her granddaughter Jennifer King Walters, and three sisters Patricia Sherwood, Doris DeSilva and Gail Dibble.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, July 30, at 11 am at the New Kingston Presbyterian Church. Arrangements entrusted to Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville, NY.
