Marga Liddle
Marga Liddle, 100, of Andes, died on December 27th 2022 at the Mountainside Residential Care Center from influenza.
She was born on March 23rd 1922 in Sennfeld Germany. A year after her father Otto Ferber’s 1927 emigration to the U.S., Marga along with her mother Frieda and brother Al, made the passage to New York. The family settled in the Bronx. Marga graduated from the Julia Richman High School in Manhattan and pursued a business career working at the Hotel St. Moritz and then at the Standard and Poor’s company. In 1943 the family purchased a dairy farm on Perch Lake Rd. Initially, Marga and her father continued working in the city and visited only on weekends while Frieda operated the farm. Although Marga reveled in the cosmopolitan life style of the city, the beauty of the Catskills and the childhood memories of the Bavarian landscape that they evoked beckoned her to make Andes her permanent home. She would soon meet her husband to-be, Donald. Together they raised four sons on the Liddle family’s dairy farm on the Tremperskill Road.
Marga enjoyed bowling, golfing, reading, feeding the birds that frequented her many feeders, helping with the annual hay harvest, and taking long drives through the countryside. She periodically worked at various jobs within the surrounding communities
Marga was pre-deceased by husband Donald, son Douglas, infant son Paul, daughters-in-law Sumako, Virginia and Jean and grandson Mathew James.
She is survived by sons Donald (Vera), Martin (Peggy), Richard (Jenny), and grandchildren Donnie (Erica), Deborah, Michael (Monica), Martin (Kate), Cassie, Abigail (Mathew), Nathaniel and Suzanna and seven great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank Marga's Mountainside Residential Care Center family who took such wonderful care of her throughout her final years.
A celebration of life for Marga Liddle will be held at the Andes Hotel Saturday January 7, 2023 at 2pm
