John C. Burroughs December 9, 1943- December 22, 2024

John C. Burroughs, age 81, of Roxbury, NY, passed away peacefully at his home on December 22, 2024 after battling a long illness. Born on December 9, 1943, in Margaretville, NY to the late Curtis and Velva Burroughs.

John’s life was a testament to his unwavering spirit and the love he had for his family and friends. He attended Roxbury Central School before beginning his career with the Town of Roxbury Highway Department. After 30 years of dedicated service, he retired in 2006.

In his free time, John enjoyed riding his motorcycle through the scenic country roads.

John’s memory will be cherished and kept alive by his wife of 63 years, Jeanetta (Erway); daughter Debora (Larry) Kimball; grandchildren Larry Kimball (Steve), Amanda Burroughs, Ashley (Michael) Lein and Rachel (Jessica) Berschwinger; great-grandchildren Tatianna, Christian, Zayla, Paxton and Ryan; sisters Margaret Scudder and Blanche (Ted) Maduri; brothers Robert Burroughs and David (Michelle) Burroughs; many nieces and nephews.

His family would like to give a heartfelt thank you to extended family members William Walcutt, Haley (Kyle) Ciaravino, Kendall and Kristofer Walcutt for their unconditional love and support.

John was predeceased by his son John Burroughs; brothers Curtis, Edward, Chancey; sisters Elizabeth Kandora and Rosemarie; dog Dottie.

Calling hours will be held on December 30, 2024 from 11:00 AM- 12:00 PM at the Jay Gould Memorial Reformed Church in Roxbury, NY. A funeral service will immediately follow at 12 noon. Due to weather conditions, burial services will occur in the spring time.
