Joan F. Ehlers
Joan Frances Ehlers passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 8, 2023, with family by her side. Joan was married to Rudolph Ehlers and recently celebrated their 54th year of marriage. Joan was born to Willard & Dorothy Lane on March 7, 1941, and was a beacon of love and wisdom to her family and friends. Her life was a testament to the values of compassion, generosity and unwavering devotion to loved ones. Joan had a heart of gold and a smile that could brighten the darkest of days. She had a special way of making everyone feel loved and valued. Her warm hugs and soothing words provided solace to all who sought her embrace. Joan was the epidemy of nurturing love and selflessly cared for her family. She was always there to offer comfort and guidance.
Joan graduated from Grand Gorge Central school where she served as class president. Joan was known for her unwavering commitment to her family, community and work. Upon graduation, she worked as a candy striper at the Margaretville Hospital. Her professional career began at the US postal service where she spent 32 years. Her dedication to the job was evident in every package delivered, sorted letters and shared a smile with every person she served. Joan was a member of the Prattsville Rescue Squad and a member and treasurer of the Prattsville United Methodist Church.
Joan enjoyed gardening, crocheting, knitting, camping, and bowling. She was a fabulous cook and was famous for her soft chocolate chip cookies.
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Joan is survived by her husband Rudy and their children, Lila Kratchovil ( Christopher); Richard Ehlers, Sr. (Eileen) and Barbara Brent (Dominic) and son-in-law, Christopher Tompkins, twelve grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Joan is also survived by her brother, Donald Lane (Connie); and several nieces and nephews. Joan is predeceased by her daughters, Tammy Jones (William) and Kristin Tompkins. She also is predeceased by a sister, Diane Lane.
The funeral services will be held on Friday, October 13, 2023 at 2 pm. at the Discover Life Church, 14464 NY23, Prattsville, NY 12468. Following the service there will be a funeral reception in the church hall.
