Glenn B. Whitney

Glenn B. Whitney, born September 25, 1935, in Prattsville, NY, at the Carmen House, passed away peacefully on February 7, 2025. He was the son of Eva (Johnson) Whitney and Leon James Whitney.

Glenn was predeceased by his parents, his brother Harold, and his sister Doris Hewitt. He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Charlotte (Fairbairn), whom he married on May 5, 1961. Charlotte passed away in March of 2003.

Glenn is survived by his son, James, and wife, Cynthia, along with many nieces and nephews who will remember him fondly.

In 1955, Glenn enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served until 1959 alongside local friends Lynn Johnson, Waldo Todd, and Warren Shultis. He proudly served aboard the BB62 Battleship New Jersey as a Second Class Machinist Mate in the engine room, achieving the rank of E5.

After his military service, Glenn worked briefly with his uncle, Kenneth Johnson, before spending 39 years with Daitch Crystal Dairies at the creamery, where he retired from a long and dedicated career.

In retirement, Glenn found joy in simple pleasures, particularly alongside Charlotte. The couple shared many cherished moments, including fishing, long walks, blackberry picking, enjoying coffee at 2:30 PM, dining out, and listening to country music. They also loved attending country fairs and the Shinhopple Bluegrass Festival.

In his later years, Glenn became a familiar face with his “country store family,” enjoying coffee, scratch-off tickets, and visiting with friends.

He also treasured his visits to Cindy’s, where he would sit on the back porch with the cats, Gigi and Henrietta, as they all waited for supper.

Glenn will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

A private service will be held in his memory.

At the family’s request, any donations in Glenn’s memory may be made to  Roxbury EMS.
