Charlie Shultis

Leland Charles Shultis "Charlie", 84 of Margaretville, NY passed away peacefully on January 1, 2025. Born in Arena, NY on May 9, 1940, he was the beloved husband of Sandra Shultis. Charlie is survived by his children,  Sherri and Chris Fraser of Washingtonville, NY, John Shultis of Margaretville, NY, Stefanie and William Curran of Bradenton, FL, and Shannon and Melissa Shultis of Margaretville, NY. He is also survived by grandchildren, Nicholas, Joseph and Caleb Fraser, Corey and Siera Curran, Chelsea and Casey Shultis and Carly and Dan Kuehnle.   

He was a dedicated employee of Mobil Oil, Petrolane and Suburban Propane throughout his career in the Margaretville area until his retirement.   

In his younger days, Charlie enjoyed racing his older brother Leonard's hot rods at Fonda, NY. Some of his trophies and one of his racing cars is now in the Don Garlits Museum of Drag Racing in Ocala, FL. He was also an avid snowmobiler and NASCAR fan, particularly of Richard Petty, often visiting racetracks during his travels. Charlie was also known to his children and spouses as "Mr. Fix It," helping with many projects throughout the years and always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it.   

Calling hours will be held from 12pm-1pm on Friday May 9, 2025 at Hynes Funeral Home in Margaretville. A funeral service will follow and burial will be in the Margaretville Cemetery Annex.    

The family would like to thank the dedicated staff at Mountainside Residential Care Center for their excellent care provided for Charlie. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any donations be made in Charlie's memory to the annual car show at the Mountainside Residential Care Center.
