Bruce E. Melvin
Bruce Edward Melvin, born February 3rd 1941 in Andes NY, died on March 4th 2023 in Basset Hospital in Cooperstown NY. Predeceased by his parents, George W. Melvin and Helen M. Banuat, brother Donald Melvin, and daughter Dawn M. Melvin. Survived by his wife Tammy Melvin (Weaver) and grandson Austin George, nieces and nephews Judy(Robert) Titch, Laura (Dale) Henderson, Charlie(Cindy) Melvin, Wayne(Deborah) Melvin, Daniel (Grace) Melvin, Elaine (George) Finkle, great nieces and nephews Aaron (Tamara) Titch, Larry (Kaitlin) Titch, Steven (Kim) Titch, Falcon Thomas Melvin, Ariel (Mikey) Melvin, Sarah (Zack) Benson, and Tyler (Jessica) Melvin as well as great great nieces and nephews Vincent Titch, Robert (TJ) Titch, Annalyn Titch, Ryilee Benson, and Dakota Benson.
He began his life on Bussey Hollow Road, born into a family of farmers he farmed until 1976 when he began working for the Town of Andes Highway department as a heavy equipment operator until retirement. Bruce enjoyed fixing tractors, lawnmowers or really anything he needed to. From 1959-1976 He helped his mother Helen raise his niece Judy Titch. The days in which he did not spend fixing things, he spent hunting or getting into mischief with Robert Titch, Asa Winner and many others. On may 20th 1983 Bruce married his wife Tammy Melvin (Weaver) at the Methodist Church on Bussey Hollow. Two years later on June 7th, 1985 they welcomed their baby girl Dawn into the world. His daughter was the light of his life until his grandson Austin came into his life on September 2nd,2010. After his daughter’s death, the glue that held him together was his grandson and dogs Mya and Max and later Tank and Lady. Bruce was a kind hearted man who would drop what he was doing to help anyone in need in whatever way he could, he will be sorely missed.
Visitation and calling hours will be held Tuesday March 14, 2023 from 3pm-6pm at Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville. A funeral service will be held at 5:30pm with Rev. Bert More officiating. Burial will be in the spring.
