Arthur “Art” Filupeit

On Wednesday December 16, 2020 Arthur(Art) F. Filupeit, a loving husband, father, and grandfather passed away at the age of 95.

    Art was born in the Bronx on October 26, 1925 to August and Caroline Filupeit. In 1932, the family relocated to run a farm in the Dry Brook Valley until 1939 when they moved to a farm in Union Grove. Art graduated from Andes Central School. Art enlisted in the United States Army in February of 1945 until his honorable discharge in October 1949. From there, Art began a career as a union laborer with the Local 17 laborers union out of Newburgh, NY and worked on many of the NYC Watershed projects, such as the Pepacton Reservoir Dam and Aqueduct, and the interstate highway systems under the Eisenhower administration.  Art was honored for his time with the union with a 70 years of service pin.

Art was predeceased by his father, August, mother, Caroline, and brothers, Albert and Oscar.

    Art is survived by  the love of his life and wife Hazel Jones, married December 1, 1951 and spent the last 69 years by her side. Together they raised and are survived by two sons Thomas(LuAnn)and Timothy(Cindy). Also his sister-in-law Gertrude, his grandchildren Marisa, Krista, Tommy, Kelly, Amy, and Erin as well as his great grandchildren Ryan, Laila, Liam and Caroline.

There will be a memorial service for Art in the spring.
